Minutes Page
Unofficial (somewhat edited) minutes of monthly meetings will be
posted as a convenience to those who couldn't make the meetings.
July 13, 2005
Called the meeting to order and opened with prayer.
1.
We welcomed a guest speaker and fellow Knight, Nick Michels. Nick
spoke on seminary life and thanked the Council for the $500
scholarship he received. Nick stated that letters both from home and
kids in school mean a great deal to the morale of the seminarians.
2.
Golf Outing – We have a greater number of sponsors this year. John
Schreurs will continue to seek sponsorship as well as golfers for
the event on July 23rd at Northern Links Golf Course.
3.
KC Bingo – At the Sioux Empire Fair on August 9th. Steve
Hoffman will try to fill all of our shifts on Sunday and Thursday. A
training session will take place for the workers on Monday, August 8th
at 7:00 p.m. at the KC Hall.
4.
Coaches Roast – Set for Tuesday, August 23rd. Council
voted to serve brats and picnic style meal. The cost of the meal
will remain at $6.00 with a cash bar. The money will be collected at
the door, instead of at the food preparation area.
5.
Membership Information – Membership renewal forms were sent in June.
We are still waiting for all the members to return their forms and
fees. The deadline is the end of July. The membership form requires
a Social Security number for the purposes of death benefits from the
Supreme Council. We have 90 new members in 2005. We have 175 new
members within the State of South Dakota.
The Sudanese population has started their own Knights of
Columbus Member Council. They have enough members to support another
Council.
The Hispanic Roundtable will also continue at our Lady of Guadalupe
parish.
6.
Financial Information – Gerry Dvorak presented the financial
statement which was approved by majority vote. It was voted and
approved to send Dan Zerfas a $50 gift certificate for his efforts
and costs in producing the invitation for the Recognition Dinner and
Installation of Officers meeting.
In order to better
track accounting records, it was voted and approved to pay the
Building Fund $700 from the Council Fund for each of the first two
quarters of 2005. From July 1, 2005 on, the Building Fund will
collect $10 per active member per year. Food will be purchased for
the Council at cost so no additional fees will be charged for food
for the various events at the KC Hall. The Building Fund will keep
all proceeds from the cash bar.
7.
Other Business – Bishop’s Burse for the assistance of seminarians is
to be distributed at a later date. Due to the fact we do not have a
Bishop in place at this time; it may be elected to distribute the
funds through the KC Council. A letter to request funds for the
Bishop’s Burse will be sent so that we can continue this program.
The
Adopt-A-Seminarian program was also discussed. We will check with
Mark Finnegan to continue this program. For every $500 scholarship,
the Council receives a $100 rebate in return.
A parish pancake
breakfast fundraiser was discussed to also assist seminarians from
our parishes in the Marquette Council. Jamie Rounds will check into
developing this program. We have 25 seminarians from our diocese.
South Dakota is blessed with many seminarians and we would like to
continue to support their education.
Family of the Month
program was discussed. John Schreurs will obtain the nomination
information and nominate a family for the upcoming month. The
Council Family Director will also assist in these efforts.
Broomtree Retreat is
also in need of donations. We will consider using some of the golf
tournament proceeds to help fund this program.
Msgr. Andrasko
underwent heart surgery and is doing well. The Council will send a
get-well card. Msgr. requests cards only; no donations. We will also
send cards for two deceased members, Ed Wolanski and Lyle Denevan
(unsure of name spelling).
The KC is also
developing a soccer challenge, much like the free throw contest.
Youth participate in kicking the soccer ball for points in different
areas of the soccer goal. We will send for the kit that details the
program and set up a date for this fall.
Discussion also took
place about replacing the bingo cards after this session at the
Sioux Empire Fair.
A summer picnic was
discussed, but no decision was made on a date due to the crowded
schedule.
A Knights of Columbus
and Shrine mixer was also discussed. It was decided to hold off on
this event for now.
There will also be a
new Editor for the Crusader. He is a former Grand Knight from
Chamberlain.
Seeing no further business, meeting was adjourned.
