Vere R. Ewing Award
From 1952 to 1979 this award was known as the Izaak
Walton League Award. In 1979 the award was re-designated as the Vere R.
Ewing Award. Although the name changed, the basis of the Award remained
the same.
The Vere R. Ewing Award is a plaque on which
the recipients name, sponsor, and year are engraved. The
sponsor is Ewing Industries, Inc. of Sioux Falls, SD, in honor
and memory of Vere R. Ewing, co-founder of Richards-Ewing
Chemical Co. (1935) which has served the water and wastewater
industry. The plaque becomes the permanent property of the
award winner.
The basis of the award is improved operation
and maintenance at a wastewater treatment plant in South Dakota
which results in a better plant effluent and/or stream
condition. The operator is judged with respect to
operation and utilization of the facilities he has in his
particular plant; therefore, an operator of a stabilization pond
has the same chance of winning the award as does the operator of
a complex secondary or tertiary treatment plant.
