Hapki Do Tenets
1. Do not think that you can learn Hapkido in a day. It will take your entire lifetime to learn
2. In Hapkido start with a bow and end with a bow
3. Be ready to release your mind
4. Spirit first, technique second
5. No initiative attack in Hapkido
6. Move according to your opponent
7. Do not think that you have to win. Think, rather , that you do not have to lose
8. Know yourself at first and then others. To know yourself is to study oneself in action with another person
9. Accidents come out of idleness
10. Devise at all times. This means inventing, contriving, and forming new combinations and ideas, new applications of principles, new arrangements of techniques. Always plan and always devise
11. To meditate means to realize the imperturbability of one’s original nature, that on can not be disconcerted, disturbed or agitated. It is a state of complete emptiness
12. Awareness is without a choice, without demand, without anxiety. In that state of mind , there is perseption
Hapki Do Creed
Courtesy: A general allowance despite facts, consideration, cooperation and generosity in providing with kindness
Integrity: Firm adherence to a code of moral or artistic values. Being honest to oneself and to others
Wisdom: Knowledge, the ability to discern inner qualities and relationships, insight, good sense of judgment
Perseverance: To persist in a state, enterprise or undertaking in spite of counter influences
Self Control: Restrained exercised over one’s own impulses, emotions or desires. Power with control is useful. Power without control can be dangerous.
Indomitable Spirit: Inner feeling. To do what is necessary and right regardless of the consequences
Perfection of Character: To turn inward. Focus on internal development of one’s self
