     The stamp is part of a 3 stamp set issued in 1949. It shows a map of the Hervey Islands with longitude and latitude and a distance

     At the equator 1' (one minute) of either longitude latitude is equal to 1 mile. Latitude remains the same, but as you move north or south 1' of longitude becomes shorter. On this map 1' of latitude is the same size as 2' minutes of longitude and, by the scale in the lower right corner, both are a little more than 2 miles in length, which is more than double for latitude, but just a little long for longitude.
