From left to right George's father, Scott Springer Hendricks, George Hendricks (as a child), in the rear Anna Dougherty (George's Governess), Right George's Godmother, Nellie Holdbrook. This picture is on the steps of George's maternal grandparents house circa 1917, 3650 Washington Street, San Francisco, California. George was raised by his grandfather, Wendell Philucius Hammon and maternal grandmother, Augusta Mary "Gussie" Kenney. George's mother, Georgia Kenney Hammon, died seven months after his birth, June 21, 1914 and his father was ill-prepared to raise him as a single parent. Scott was too much the man about town and playboy. Father and son were never close for the remainder of their lives. George as a young child nicknamed them "Mur" for Augusta and "Baba" for WP. These names stuck with the family to this day. |

This is a picture of Lizzie with her grandson George Hammon Hendricks circa 1917. Lizzie was the daughter of Samuel G "Squire" Glass and Susan Springer. In spite of her stern expression, Lizzie was known to have a very sunny disposition. She had extremely bad teeth and had them replaced with wooden false teeth before children Scott Springer and Elizabeth Winona were born. |
