Slammers prepare for next season
Despite some late season improvements, namely acquiring outfielder Garret Anderson in a trade with New Mexico before the trading deadline, the Nashville Slammers have been little more than lackluster this season.

They're nestled firmly in last place in the eastern division, and can only play spoilers this week against the Indiana Stars, who have lost their last seven games.

"I'll admit it, this baseball managing thing is harder than it looks," manager Garth Brooks said. "I've learned a lot this season, and maybe if management and these fans are good enough, they'll have me back for another season."

The one thing this franchise doesn't want is to end up with the first pick in the draft for the second straight season.

"Let [Johnny] Cash's team be relegated," Brooks said. "I don't want to be in last place. This team already did that once last year."

Nashville goes into the final week of the regular season tied with the Hell Fire for the worst record in the IBE. The Commissioner's office has already declared that neither team would be relegated, since no lower league exists in this orginazation.

Slammers southern party announced
The Coca-Cola company and Jack Daniels have teamed up with Richard Childress Racing to present Slammers Summer 08'  for the Slammers-Bombers series. Free Jack and Cokes at the stadium [It should be noted that the commissioner's office of standards and practices have placed severe limits on the first part of the promotion] along with some food and prizes to be given away throughout the series. Prizes include a chance to ride along in a burnout contest with Clint Bowyer, as well as the  Ultimate Jack Daniels Grill Collection and one year supply of Coca-Cola products.

One lucky winner will also get a chance to be Bowyer's honorary crew chief for an upcoming race. The winner will sit atop the pit box along with hangin out with the #07 Jack Daniels crew for the weekend of the Sharpie 400 at Bristol Motor Speedway during the race for the chase.

"We got some great support from these fine folks and we are gonna have one hell of a party."  Slammers owner Aaron Andera said. We are pullin out all the stops for this one."

Nashville takes revenge on further Hell "brushbacks"
It seems that Buffalo isn't the only team that the Hell pitching staff has it out for.

Nashville catcher Jamie Burke is injured for 31 days, the result of a clearly inside pitch from Paul Byrd that struck Burke in the right knuckle in the second game of the series.  B.J. Upton got smacked in the leg by Jon Lester which led to his early exit in game four. First base coach Jimmy Mattingly said of the errant pitches, " We almost thought there was gonna be a brawl out there after B.J. Got hit."  After that game, the Slammers' bats lit up the Hell pitchers in games 3 and 4.

"After the emotions on the field settled we ended up with a split which we are good with," Slammers' owner Aaron Andera said after the series. "Its a new team we have no worries."
