Franchise announces move
to Nashville
After carefully evaluating all options
for the 2007 IBE season and beyond for the Jacksonville Beagles organization
has exhausted all sponsorship options in Jacksonville.
"I am formally announcing to the wonderful fans of Jacksonville that this franchise no longer be affiliated with this city and upon approval from the league commissioner this team will be awarded to the city of Nashville, Tennessee next season," owner Aaron Andera said. "Any further questions as to a team name, stadium and sponsor will be realeased in a forthcoming announcement that is all."
It was a bit surprising that the team announced this move with eight home games still to play in 2006, and the playoffs still a possibility this season. But team management stated that these talks had been going on since before the season started, and the deal was just finalized.
Attendance has already suffered this season at Comcast Stadium amid those rumors. This beleaguered city has now lost two IBE franchises since the league's inception in 2002, the first being the Jacksonville JSox, which moved to Colorado after the 2002 season.
No comment was available from the Jacksonville city commission.

With owner away, franchise
move seems imminent
The owner's box at Comcast stadium has
been empty for the last five weeks, which is cause for big concern in Jacksonville.
Owner Aaron Andera was talking with potential sponsors and meeting with various city officials in Pensacola, Fla. for that time, presumably conducting talks about where the team will play next season.
Andera could not be reached for comment, so all talk at this point is speculation, but evidence, including sponsor dropouts in Jacksonville, points to a probable franchise move to Nashville, Tennessee or New Orleans, Louisiana for next season.
Meanwhile, on the field, The Beagles have struggled away from home for a third straight season, but have three of their final four series on home turf, which could play a big part in their playoff bid.

Sponsors' financial difficulties
has team thinking of possible move
It seems that Jacksonville may well lose
its second franchise in this league after this season.
Owing to some bad publicity and some financial problems, the team's stadium naming rights had been given to Comcast this season, but Comcast looks as if they'll pull out of that contract at the end of the season, citing difficulties with the team's management.
The Beagles have posted an impressive record on their home field in the past two seasons, but have so far failed to make a playoff appearance.
"I'd like to stay here, the people seem real nice," manager Larry the Cable Guy said. "But it ain't my call to make this time, cause my office phone's been turned off."
If the franchise does not find another sponsor or get more investors, the Beagles could be forced to move, with Nashville and New Orleans being the two most interested cities to host the franchise.
