Checking out the Stars' new logo

The Indiana Stars unveiled their new logo two weeks ago, at the end of their home series against the Tucson Cacti. Team owner Nathan Andera was there for the unveiling and throwing out the first pitch of the series finale (pictured), and of course team mentor/songman John Mellencamp was there to provide an inspired performance of his hit, "Check It Out" before the packed house.

"This season's been great so far," Mellencamp said. "We've run across some bumps along the way, but this dream is still alive, and someday it will come true, because this franchise it belongs to folks like me and you."

Since unveiling the new logo, the Stars are 6-3 and have their first full series with the new look. It will kick off their final home stand of the 2007 regular season, before playing their final eight games on the road.

Guerrero believes he is MVP for the 2007 season
Despite Indiana dropping their first two games of the year, outfielder Vladimir Guerrero is convinced that he is part of the best team ever.

“The Stars are the best team I’ve ever seen," he said. "These guys are great!”

Stars owner Nathan Andera came up with a new concept to reward Guerrero’s exceptional play.

“I would like to see the MVP voting done earlier this year," the two-year-old owner said with surprising diction. "The way Guerrero is playing we might as well give him the MVP early so he can enjoy it throughout the season. It would be sort of like a coronation where you get the award before the actual dance.”

Indiana’s big star is off to a big start. Vlad has cranked out 8 homers and added 17 RBIs in his first 12 games while hitting at a .469 clip. When the press asked John Mellencamp about Nathan’s idea he said, “It would sure save everyone some time and I would love to see Vlad be able to enjoy his MVP trophy as he travels from town to town, what a great idea Nathan, Check it out!”

Check it out -- Indiana brimming with confidence after draft
It seems that although this franchise seems to have finally settled on a permanent location to play their home games, the expectations of the locals never cease to be high. Just ask Indiana native and new figurehead John Mellencamp.

“If Indiana does not win the championship this year, I will be very suspicious of a fix,” said Mellencamp. The rocker continued with his outrageous claims. “We should have no problem setting the record for most runs scored in a season, in fact we may double the record."

Hitters like outfielders Magglio Ordonez and Vladimir Guerrero, as well as Carlos Guillen and catcher Victor Martinez should be feared as the Stars try to regain what’s rightfully theirs, the IBE title.

The pitching staff is looking for a record-breaking year too. Great drafting by general manager Jason Andera along with new advisor Mellencamp have produced enormous expectations and optimism.

“I think we’ve put the best APBA team together in history,” said Andera. “Our only problem will be deciding how to control the parade route through downtown Indianapolis at the season’s end.”
