Bolts clinch playoff berth in style
The Buffalo Bolts will be playing for their third division title this week in New Mexico.

The team clinched their playoff berth last week in their home finale, sweeping all four games against the Indiana Stars, the team they were chasing down. That gave them a 7-1 season series win and the head-to-head tiebreaker.

"I can't begin to tell you how proud I am of this team," manager Randy Bush said. "These guys never gave up, and took on a huge challenge this week."

But the journey isn't over. The sweep left the Bolts tied with the Indiana Stars for the division lead. They'll try not to do any scoreboard watching as they play in New Mexico this week to close the season, while Indiana plays in Nashville. In fact, the start times in Nashville have been moved forward an hour so that games at both sites start simultaneously.

"We know what needs to be done, and we have to take care of our business first," Bush said. "And even if we did watch the scoreboards, we have to remember that Indiana isn't the only team we're chasing this week. We're trying to beat Tucson for home field in the playoffs as well."

Bolts' getting ready for challenge in Oklahoma
The Bolts play a possible playoff preview series in Oklahoma this week, and manager Randy Bush is confident his pitchers can withstand the bats of the Rockhounds.

"I'd say we handled the Indiana bats pretty well a few weeks ago," Bush said. "Last I checked they had the best pitching staff out there. I'm more worried about our pitching holding up in these four games. Oklahoma's always a good team, so we need to take a cue from them and forget about the team we're playing, let things happen, and be the ball."

It should be noted that Bush has been spotted a few times on the grounds at Bushwood Country Club this last offseason. This series is the end of a 12-game road trip, before heading home to take on both the southern party teams.

Batters concerned about Hell pitching practices
After getting through a series with the Hell Fire that saw five different Bolts' hitters getting hit by pitches, including four in one game, the team is concerned for the future opponents of the Fire this season.

"After Casey [Kotchman] and Alex [Rodriguez] were hit back-to-back, the ump rightly threw their pitcher out," Bolts' outfielder Jason Michaels said. "I came up later that inning, the first pitch was right at my friggin' head. I think I saw the man point at my head before he took the signal! I thought that maybe there was a chance that SDX didn't have it out for us, but the pitch at me, and at Melky [Cabrera] pretty much cleared any doubt in my head."

Michaels suffered a dislocated elbow as a result of the pitch that hit him, and is out for about another two weeks.

"Whether or not there's any intent towards us isn't the issue," manager Randy Bush said. "This is just not fair play trying to take out players. I'm concerned for the Havana batters next week, especially if those guys aren't able to score anything themselves."
