Roller
coaster ride continues in Birmingham
The 2007 Birmingham
Bombers have been an amusement park ride to say the least. They have seemed
to alternate 3-1 series wins with 3-1 series losses.
That pattern continued last week, winning three out of four games at home against fellow playoff contenders Havana.
After winning a couple of error aided games in last week's series against the Cigars, Jackson just shook his head saying, "I don't believe in luck, but I have to admit we were lucky in the 1st and 3rd games of the series. We were aided by Cigar miscues, and we could've easily lost this series 3-1." He added, "The way we played that second game of the series is the way we're supposed to play, great pitching and timely hitting."
In the game, rookie starter Fausto Carmona went the distance, winning his second game sof the season, and the Bombers got nine runs on 12 hits.
The Bombers head on the road for eight games, where they haven't exactly played well, and their opponents are the cream of the crop in the east, playing Buffalo this week and in Indiana the next before playing their final home games against western division contenders Okahoma.
"No doubt it'll be tough," Jackson said. "But we need to do well in these games if we have any shot at returning to the playoffs this season."

Jackson
tries to resolve team's inconsistent play
The Bombers have
been consistently inconsistent this season, winning two series and losing
two series, but having yet to sweep a series.
That kind of play has landed this team firmly in fourth place in the strong eastern division.
"We need to get better play out of these guys to have any shot at the playoffs this year," manager Bo Jackson said. "And Bo knows that these guys can do it. They proved that a few seasons ago."
The fans, however expect more. The boos have been ringing down at Bass Pro Shops Ballpark this season. Jackson is trying to inspire his players to use that as a driving force, the way NASCAR drivers do.
"I guarantee you that's what Jeff Gordon does," he said. "He uses everything the fans throw at him to stoke his fire and it drives him to be better at what he does."
The Bombers head to Tucson this week to try and regroup their season, before heading back home to face division rival Havana.

Rain
dampens southern series party
The Birmingham Bombers
have shared a promotional relationship with their southern friends in Jacksonville.
Even though the Jacksonville team moved to Nashville this year, that didn't
stop the promotions from happening last week.
For the series in Birmingham last week, Bass Pro Shops gave away a camping package to a lucky fan and their family. They also had Martin Truex Jr, driver of the #1 DEI Bass Pro Shops sponsored car, signing autographs before the first game of the series.
The second game was called due to rain, that game has been rescheduled to the day before the next time these teams meet in week 5.
