Long-term Camp 2002

We went to long-term June 23rd through June 29th.  22 scouts went with 4 adults.  It was hot all week and it only rained for about an hour Tuesday night.  Camp was at Lewis and Clark Scout Reservation in Tabor, South Dakota, ten miles west of Yankton.  The camp is on the Missouri River.  Friday morning the troop participated in the canoe breakfast.  A group of sixteen troop members canoed up river to a cove and had a breakfast consisting of oatmeal and peaches with cherry juice.  The breakfast was cooked over a fire on the beach.  After breakfast the troop paddled back to the waterfront, a little late for the first-class trail hike.

Iyataka Campout, July 19th through July 21st

This month we are going to Iyataka for this month’s campout.  Iyataka is a lowly developed campground that belongs to the council.  It’s by Big Stone Lake, near Watertown.  There is no running water or any electricity.  The road is rough preventing the trailer from being taken to the campsites.  The PLC looked at these challenges and decided to have a backpacking campout.  The biggest problem is water.  Water will be needed for cooking and drinking.  We have only three options for the water, hauling it in, using a water purification system or iodine tablet.  Boiling the water could also be an option.  This is also a chance to finish unfinished meritbadges from long-term, along with another troop merit badge.  $11 dollars for the campout is due at the troop meeting on the 15th.

Birthdays

Happy birthday this month to Phillip S. (7th), Alex O. (14th),  Max H. (26th) and David L. (27th).
