Jordan

Jordan was a Turkish territory until it was established as a British mandate in 1920. In 1946 the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan became independent, and in 1950 it occupied and annexed the West Bank (of the Jordan River). In 1952 Hussein became king following the assassination of King Abdullah.
This stamp, issued in 1952, asserts the unity of Jordan, including the West Bank. Jordan lost the West Bank to Israel in the Six Day war in 1967 though it continues to claim it. The design is identified as a relief map.
