Newfoundland

From 1855 to 1933 Newfoundland was a self-governing Dominion of the British Empire. In 1933 it became a Crown Colony, and in 1949 it became a Province of Canada.

North Borneo

      North Borneo became a British colony in 1946 after being administered by the British North Borneo Company since 1881. The name of North Borneo was changed to Sabah in 1963 when it joined Singapore, Sarawak and Malaya to form the Federation of Malaysia. Sabah issued its own stamps from 1964 to 1986.
     On this map Brunei has been given all of the 5th division of Sarawak. In fact, it had only a small finger of land 15 miles wide by 80 miles long from the coast inland, separated from the main part of Brunei.
